Business Intelligence (BI) Developer – 3-month Fixed Term Contract – Maldon, Essex

  • As a business, we take our corporate social responsibility to our customers, partners, and ourselves extremely seriously.  We are always seeking ways to lessen our footprint and are currently working on a five-year plan to both increase the sustainability of all the packaging we use and make sure all our packaging is easily recyclable.   • We have exciting growth plans for the business and are seeking an elite Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to support us on the journey as we build on our success and embark upon new and exciting projects.
About the Role:
  • Working with the Business Information & Systems team, this role will support Maldon Salt in further developing Power BI reports and dashboards to drive actionable insights across the business.  This is a 3-month fixed term contract, with a possibility of being extended.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of new and existing reports and dashboards, with an initial focus on a new Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) solution.
  • Collaborate with the S&OP project team to deliver a phased development, release, and training of a MS Power BI solution based on a predefined Specification of Requirements (SoR) for the S&OP solution.
  • Translate the SoR into MS Power BI reports and dashboards to meet business needs.
  • Integrate source data from the Sage X3 ERP system, using an MS SQL database, into Power BI reports to provide key insights for sales and operations planning.
  • Connect and integrate additional data sources as required, such as Excel, txt, csv, pdf, and SharePoint.
  • Partner with team leads from Sales, Operations, Production, and Finance to develop analytics, reports, and visualisations that drive actionable insights.
  • Conduct unit testing and resolve any issues (bug fixes) to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the reports and dashboards.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Provide ongoing support to business users developing Power BI insights.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer by training and mentoring team members and stakeholders on the use of Power BI and the developed solutions.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
  • Essential:
  • Demonstratable expertise in creating interactive and visually appealing reports, dashboards, and data visualisations using Power BI.
  • Understands the business context and collaborating with business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable reports that provide valuable insights.
  • Proficiency in SQL and data modelling concepts.
  • Proven experience in developing accurate and performant calculations using DAX.
  • Self-starter with ability to innovate and take the initiative.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and lead the initiatives for performance data management and dashboard reporting.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in translating complex protocols and processes into user-friendly guides and training materials.
  • Highly Desirable:
  • Knowledge and experience of Sage X3 ERP system.
  • Experience in data mining and data warehouse design.
  • Experience in an FMCG and/or food production environment.

Qualifications:
  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, or equivalent, would be highly desirable.
Hours and Location:
  • Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day, between 7am – 5pm.
  • Based at our Head Office in Wycke Hill Business Park, Maldon, Essex, CM9 6UZ for a minimum of two days per week.
Salary & Reward Package:
  • Competitive, aligned with market rates.
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays.
  • 1 week company sick pay after successful probationary period, increasing to 3-weeks Company Sick Pay (after 12 months service).

  • To deliver optimum use of resources for the shift that ensures the shift delivers safety, productivity, quality, cost, service, and objectives in an environment of high morale and engagement.

  • Maintain and drive all standards relating to Health & Safety, quality, and hygiene.
  • Assist with the delivery of the weekly schedule for the shift and supporting the team to reach its target.
  • Ensure shifts are covered and help with team training and development.
  • Develop a culture embracing the Maldon values.

  • Drive the training plan and ensure training records are maintained and updated.

Hours and Location:
  • Rotating Weekly Shift Pattern – 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Week 1 = 5:45am to 2pm, with one 15-minute paid break and one 30-minute unpaid break.
  • Week 2 = 2pm to 10:15pm, with one 15-minute paid break and one 30-minute unpaid break.
  • Based at our Head Office in Wycke Hill Business Park, Maldon, Essex, CM9 6UZ.
