Salt Operative – Goldhanger, Essex

The role: For this role you must have a strong understanding of manual handling. The successful candidate must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, who thrives on physical work. Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain associated equipment in primary and secondary areas of operation to known standards in terms of quality and efficiency.
  • Complete Shift/Weekly checks of all plant and equipment.
  • Complete quality inspection of salt.
  • Ensure product produced meets product specification.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members/ line management.
  • Follow site escalation procedures in the event of issues, non-compliance, and failures.
  • Ensure all product quality and traceability documentation has been completed.
  • Fully understand and operate quality control procedures as outlined in the site quality systems.
  • Fully participate in identified problem-solving processes to be able to do first line fault finding and diagnostics.
  • Full involvement in improvement activities utilising continuous improvement framework to establish and capture learning, best practice, document control & process control, plant re-design / modifications and engineering out of re-occurring problems.
  • Hand pallet truck and Electric pallet truck use.
  • Pan set up.
  • Salt Production/raking.
  • Pan emptying.
  • Salt drying/storage.
  • Pan chipping.
  • Take reasonable and practical care of personal health and safety and of others who may be required to implement any legal or company directives regarding health and safety at work.
Required Experience and Behaviours:
  • Previous manual handling experience is essential.
  • Valid FLT licence is highly advantageous.
  • Location is remote with no access to public transport, so own transport is essential.

  • Motivation, enthusiasm, and a positive “can-do” attitude.
  • A passion to grow and develop.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work overtime, as required.
Hours:  
  • 6:30 am to 12:30 pm, 5 days per week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday

  • £28,080 per annum, payable monthly

Health and Safety Manager – Maldon, Essex

About the Role:

  • As a member of the QSE team reporting to the Quality, Safety and Environmental Manager, this role helps Maldon Salt to fulfil its obligations for Health and Safety compliance and performance as part of the QSE agenda.
  • The role is hands on, with particular focus on health and safety initiatives across the manufacturing, packing and distribution sites.  Day to day work will involve conducting compliance inspections including safety behaviour audits against all H&S risk assessment controls, legal requirements, and additional Maldon Salt specific compliance requirements.
  • The role includes working as part of the team to establish areas of improvement and closing gaps as part of continuous improvement in H&S performance.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the H&S safety documentation for the business, working strategically, practically and operationally as routine.
  • Visiting the manufacturing sites and working with teams to raise compliance standards.
  • Responsible for implementation and ongoing contractor management and the permits to work process, making sure contractors are managed effectively to achieve safe working areas for all.
  • Carrying out or arranging health and safety training delivery (for example:  H&S inductions for new starters, fire safety, manual handling, FLT, working from height) and compliance to legal and statutory requirements.
  • Carrying out work-related task assessments with managers and operatives and ensuring training and procedures address any risk factors whilst delegating tasks and developing teams H&S knowledge in the longer term.
  • Reviewing H&S policies and procedures and their implementation across the business based on gap analysis.
  • Demonstrate performance in reports for ease of understanding and delivery of actions.
  • If things go wrong, support accident investigations and monitor completion of corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Ensure that certification registers are maintained.
  • Define and co-ordinate safety requirements for emergency plans and fire drills.
  • Keep abreast of and provide updates on H&S legal or best practice requirements.
  • Working with the Quality, Safety and Environmental Manager to cover food safety and quality requirements in line with BRCGS standards.
  • Deputise for Quality, Safety and Environmental Manager
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
  • Essential:
  • NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) with the skills and knowledge to implement controls within a similar industry.
  • Ability to support managers, supervisors, and staff to make improvements in health and safety knowledge.
  • Experience of document control and record keeping.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing on complex issues using graphs, tables, and text.
  • Understanding of H&S legal requirements and their implementation in a practical setting.
  • Strong MS Office and IT skills.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all departments at all levels
  • At least 5 years’ experience within FMCG in a H&S manager role
  • Lead auditing qualifications.
  • ISO 14000 standards knowledge and experience
  • ISO 45001 standards knowledge and experience
  • Highly Desirable:
 
  • Knowledge and experience of CDM (construction design management) 
  • Experience in the implementation of digitalisation in documentation and process records.

Qualifications:
  • NEBOSH is essential
  • A level, BTEC or equivalent.
  • Good level of English and Maths.
