Engineering Team Leader – Maldon, Essex

  • As a business, we take our corporate social responsibility to our customers, partners, and ourselves extremely seriously.  We are always seeking ways to lessen our footprint and are currently working on a five-year plan to both increase the sustainability of all the packaging we use and make sure all our packaging is easily recyclable. In addition, with every Maldon salt box produced we will be supporting the World Land Trust and the fantastic work they do to protect threatened habitats and wildlife.

  • Due to our continuing growth plans, we are looking to recruit an Engineering Team Leader to work across all Maldon Salt sites.
About the role:
  • To develop and implement a site maintenance program.
  • To lead the multi-functional engineering site team to deliver optimum use of resources, that ensure the site delivers productivity, quality, cost, service, and safety objectives in an environment of high morale and engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with Engineering and safety legislation.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development of the site vision and strategic plan.
  • Lead and develop the engineering team, driving a culture of strong performance management and maintaining clear development and robust succession planning practices to ensure that employees realise their own potential and achieve their business objectives.
  • Work in partnership with the site manufacturing team to improve key business results and to develop engineering skills and knowledge within the site teams promoting a professional manufacturing team culture.
  • Develop the engineering function to become a centre of engineering excellence encompassing a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Identify and action opportunities for improvements within the engineering team to promote a continuous improvement culture within the engineering and operational team.
  • Provide and monitor site support systems for the adherence to company policies and statutory regulations for health, safety, and environment.
  • Work in partnership with the manufacturing team to plan and support all capital engineering projects to ensure successful completion.
  • Promote and drive collaboration across all functions to drive performance improvement.
  • Lead the site operation when required in the absence of the Engineering Maintenance Manager.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested.
  • Management of the Engineering stores.
  • Manage the booking and control of contractors.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
  • Multi-skilled (Electrical, Mechanical, Automation).
  • A proven track record of Engineering in an FMCG is essential.
  • Sound understanding of end-to-end FMCG operations.
  • Experience in implementing maintenance systems.
  • Strong leadership skills are essential.
  • Leads a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Takes a positive role in developing the skills of others.
  • Motivates others to work together through effective team work.
  • Basic food hygiene.
  • Effective verbal and written skills.

Qualifications:
  • Time served apprentice.
  • Appropriate qualification in Engineering: NVQ Level 3 as a minimum in Electrical and Mechanical.
Hours:
  • 8am – 4:15pm, Monday to Friday with a 15-minute paid, and 30-minute unpaid break per day (38.75 hours per week).
Salary & Reward Package:
  • Competitive salary, payable monthly.
  • 25 days annual leave, rising to 28 days with length of service (plus bank holidays).
  • 1 week company sick pay after successful probationary period, increasing to 3-weeks Company Sick Pay (after 12 months service).

Due to our continuing growth plans, we are looking to recruit an additional Production Operative to join the manufacturing team at our site in Maldon, Essex.

About the role:

As a Production Operative, you work as part of the operations function to manufacture/package and distribute Maldon Salt products by effective operation of plan, equipment, and systems, in primary and secondary areas.

Key internal stakeholders for this position will include Packing Process Team Manager and Engineering Support, who you will regularly communicate with about the progress of work effecting plant performance and other information affecting the activities on site.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain associated equipment in primary and secondary areas of operation to known standards in terms of quality and efficiency
  • Attend monthly Health and Safety meetings with constructive feedback to the team.
  • Complete shift/weekly checks of all plant and equipment
  • Complete quality inspection of materials/finished products
  • Ensure product change overs are undertaken correctly
  • Ensure product produced meets product specification
  • Follow policies, procedures and SOP’s at all times.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members/ line management
  • Follow site escalation procedures in the event of issues, non-compliance, and failures
  • Ensure all product quality and traceability documentation has been completed
  • Fully understand and operate quality control procedures as outlined in the site quality systems
  • Fully participate in identified problem solving processes to be able to do first line fault finding and diagnostics.
  • Full involvement in improvement activities utilising continuous improvement framework to establish and capture learning, best practice, document control and process control, plant re-design / modifications and engineering out of re-occurring problems
  • Salt Sorting
  • Pallet loading
  • Use of wrapping machine
  • Labelling packaging items
  • The use of barcode scanners and barcode label printers to support Fusion Capture
  • Supporting the Warehouse team by transferring of Tidmans rock salt to standard pallets
  • Ensure all packing lines are always stocked with packets/tubs
  • Maintain and drive all standards relating to health and safety, quality, and hygiene
  • Take reasonable and practical care of personal health and safety and of others who may be required to implement any legal or company directives regarding health and safety at work
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  • Practical experience of working within a high speed/FMCG manufacturing operation is essential
  • An understanding of manufacturing health and safety processes, legislation and individual responsibilities is essential
  • HACCP/ISO/COSHH knowledge is desirable

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 GCSE’s 9-5 (A – C) or demonstrable ability to interpret technical information is essential
  • FLT licence is desirable.

Hours

Rotating Weekly Shift Pattern – 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

  • Week 1 = 5:45am to 2pm, with one 15-minute unpaid break and one 30-minute unpaid break
  • Week 2 = 2pm to 10:15pm, with one 15-minute unpaid break and one 30-minute unpaid break

Salary & Reward Package

  • Salary £26,970 per annum, payable monthly
  • 25 days annual leave, rising to 28 days with length of service (plus bank holidays)
