WE LOVE FOOD

We are about the love of food and helping connect people in moments of pleasure from food and drink. We know taste enhances mood and Maldon salt offers a little magic no matter the meal occasion, culture or cuisine. We have a passion for inspiring home cooks and professional chefs alike.

OUR SALT

The pyramid flakes are characteristics of Maldon, recognised the world over as the finest of sea salts. Our flakes release their saltiness with sweet precision, a fresh intensity and clean taste. A highly versatile ingredient that can be used at any point in the cooking process.

INNOVATION

We may be over 140 years of age but at Maldon Salt we are always looking forward with invention and excitement. We want to help inspire imagination and create the desire to share those experiences with us at the heart of the table.

WHERE WE BEGAN

A famous name is born. Since 1882, our salt has been made with the same traditional artisan methods in the coastal town of Maldon. It is unchanging yet ever-changing, constant yet continuously challenging. However, the salt always remains the same.

FOUR GENERATIONS OF EXCELLENCE

Four generations of master salt makers have been hand harvesting the naturally formed pyramid crystals that have become Maldon‘s signature. The Osborne family have been making the finest quality salt for a century. That‘s a long time and a lot of salt for a family that’s both custodians of an ancient culinary tradition and creators of a globally recognised brand.

A FAMILY BUSINESS

These days, it‘s rare to find a family-grown business that‘s still family run. Today sees Steve Osborne at the helm, following in the footsteps of his father Clive, grandfather Cyril and great grandfather James.

WHAT WE DO

We hand harvest our flakes to ensure they are perfect in both taste and texture. We then package them and send them out around the world. But it doesn’t end there. We take it upon ourselves to inspire chefs and gastronomes plus each new generation of up and coming talent, wherever they may be. Whatever we do, we do it with passion.

OUR CRAFT

Salt makers born and bred, we’ve been hand harvesting our world famous sea salt flakes in the coastal town of Maldon since 1882. These twisting shorelines of England have been alive with salt making for almost a thousand years.

SUSTAINABILITY

As a business, we take our corporate social responsibility to our customers, partners and our people extremely seriously. For four generations we have consistently created a high quality, artisan product, in an ever-changing world. Each generation has had sustainability in mind, as the business has grown and adapted to ensure we are forging a sustainable future to pass to the next generation.

We pledge to reduce carbon emissions in our core production processes and aim for net-zero emissions by 2050. We are at the start of the journey and already making progress:

Our operations currently achieve zero-waste to landfill status. We are committed to maintaining this and identifying further waste reduction opportunities across all business activities.

Every Maldon Salt box produced supports the World Land Trust and the fantastic work they do to protect threatened habitats and wildlife. Additionally, we are working on reducing the amount of plastic in our tubs.
